The alcohol water bubbles up on the plates allowing the distiller to see the action happening in the still column. BVV Thermometer Thermowell  High quality adjustable stainless dial thermometer that adjusts from straight to a 90 degrees. This thermometer is the one that goes in the top of the still with upgraded thermometer and adjusts to 90 degrees so you can see the temperature at the top of the column. The mesh is designed to be porous enough not to clog too easily, but still trap large solids from passing through.
